Latest Leeds United transfer rumours: Ross Barkley loan backed as midfielder 'snubs' Whites

We are entering the closing stages of the summer transfer window.

Leeds United still have some work to do by the looks of things, with plenty of players being linked with moves to Elland Road.

With that in mind, here are the latest Leeds transfer rumours.

Barkley loan backed

Former Leeds United star Michael Brown has backed the club's move for Ross Barkley.

The Whites have been linked with a loan move for Chelsea midfielder Barkley following a bid-spending summer for the Blues.

Brown played alongside the former Everton star during his time on loan at Elland Road in 2013 and says a move makes sense.

He told Football Insider: "Ross would be returning back, he’s had a taste of it, I played with Ross at Leeds. He’s a fabulous talent, he’s got everything.

"Over the years he’s matured, he’s got better with his understanding of the game and I think he will be some player if Leeds United can get hold of him.

"He’s a good guy, that would be a real class signing, the quality that Ross has is magnificent, he can be unplayable at times. He’s very likeable, he gets on with everybody, I think he’d be great.

"Everyone understands his talent, as soon as he touches the ball, he’s got that little something special about the way he plays, he’d fit right in, perfect."

James boost

The Mirror report that Leeds are first in the queue for Dan James' signature.

Whilst Manchester United are currently unwilling to let the former Swansea City winger leave at the moment, he could be made available should Ole Gunnar Solskjaer finally land Jadon Sancho.

If that is the case, then Leeds' decision to switch focus from Liverpool's Harry Wilson to James could prove beneficial.

Leeds snubbed

Football Insider report that Sunderland's Daniel Neil is set to sign a new contract at the Black Cats.

The 18-year-old has attracted interest from Leeds and Wolves this summer after impressing since graduating from Sunderland's academy.

Yet he is set to sign a new three-year contract at the Stadium of Light.
