Latest Leeds United transfer rumours: Robin Koch boost, Barry Douglas backed for exit

Leeds United are currently top of the Championship table and have the best chance of being promoted back to the Premier League since their relegation in 2003.

However, with the EFL season, as well as the Premier League campaign, currently on hold due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, their chances of promotion remain uncertain.

The Whites are still being linked with players from across Europe, though, with Marcelo Bielsa having half an eye on adding to his squad for next season.

Here, we have gathered some of the latest rumours surrounding Leeds.

Manager admits defensive target could be sold

Freiburg manager Christian Streich has admitted the Bundesliga side could be forced to cash-in on defender Robin Koch when the transfer window opens.

The Germany international has been linked with a host of clubs including Leeds, West Ham and Tottenham, all of whom have received a boost in their pursuit.

“At the moment, I can’t say whether Robin will play for another club next year. No player is not for sale, we can’t afford (to say) that,” he told Sky Sports Germany.

“We are a club which rely on transfer proceeds. The most important thing for us is that we are financially healthy.”

Douglas backed for exit

Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan has backed Barry Douglas to leave Elland Road in the next transfer window to secure more first-team opportunities.

The Scotland international has struggled to secure regular opportunities in Marcelo Bielsa's side and, as a result, Whelan believes a move to Rangers could materialise.

“He is a good player, there is no doubt about that but it has been a very stop-start time at Leeds. We have failed to see the best of him. It is a shame," he told Football Insider.

“The competition has been fierce – Stuart Dallas and Alioski. I would say Douglas is third-choice. He generated a lot of excitement but we have barely seen anything. If he is going to be third choice a move to Rangers would be good. Leeds get some money and allow Douglas to go play football somewhere else.”

Bogusz tipped to secure loan move

Sticking with Noel Whelan, the former forward also predicted another departure from Elland Road in the next transfer window with Mateusz Bogusz leaving.

The 18-year-old has publicly made his frustration at a lack of first-team opportunities clear and, as result, Whelan believes a loan could be on the cards.

“I’m sure they’ve got big plans for most of their young players because they’ve excelled, especially last season and this season,” he told Football Insider.

“They’ve done very well, everyone’s given themselves a fighting chance to try and break into the first team but you can’t push the fact, you can’t push your way in there. Now there might be a loan that comes up this year and after this, the club might go: ‘Well yeah, actually, after this you can go.'”
