Latest Leeds United transfer rumours: Meslier and Harrison to seal permanent deals, James blow

Leeds United are edging closer to their long-awaited return to the Premier League

The Whites will resume their promotion bid against Stoke City on Thursday and while the majority of attention is being dedicated to getting over the line, Leeds' recruitment staff are also eyeing possible recruits ahead of next season.

With a target of just 10 more points to secure a return to the top-flight, attention can start to be shifted towards potential business this summer.

The most expensive Championship transfers ever

United have already been linked with a whole host of names and here we run you through all the latest rumours, with the latest snippers gathered below.

Meslier and Harrison permanent deals

Leeds United are pushing to sign loanees Islan Meslier and Jack Harrison on a permanent basis, TeamTalk states.

The Whites tied up Helder Costa to a four-year deal on Tuesday, completing their obligation to sign the winger on a permanent basis from Wolves for a fee of £13m after his loan spell at Elland Road.

Now, Marcelo Bielsa’s side are said to be continuing in the same vein by pushing to land Harrison from Manchester City permanently as well as goalkeeper Meslier from French outfit Lorient.

Leeds eye Hartlepool raid

Leeds United are looking at raiding non-league outfit Hartlepool United for the services of three talented youngsters, another report from TeamTalk claims.

Pools have struggled financially since being relegated out of the EFL, an issue which has been intensified due to the coronavirus crisis, and cost-cutting in their youth ranks is a measure set to be taken.

Striker Joe Grey, goalkeeper Brad Young, full-back Harrison Webster, midfielder Connor Rennison and forward Luke Chapman are amongst the players set to leave.

Barnsley, Charlton and Leeds have expressed an interest in Rennison, whilst Sunderland, Newcastle and Middlesbrough are amongst the clubs looking at both Grey and Chapman.

Dan James unavailable for loan

Daniel James will not be leaving Manchester United on loan this summer despite suggestions stating differently, his agent has clarified in quotes picked up here at Leeds Live.

The Wales international, who infamously saw a move to Elland Road collapse ahead of moving to join Manchester United, has struggled for opportunities in the second half of the season.

That led to suggestions that James could be sent out on loan next season but his agent, Jonathan Barnett, has dismissed that claim.

"No. He’s a major part of Man United’s team. I see him playing for Man United."
