Latest Leeds United transfer rumours: Last minute Joe Hugill swoop, Joe Hart backed for deal

Leeds United's hopes of returning to the Premier League received a boost on Friday when it was confirmed by the EFL that they are still planning on finishing the season.

All professional football in England has been indefinitely suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak.

But despite no games being played at the minute, that hasn’t stopped the rumour mill from continuing with the latest transfer tittle-tattle.

With that in mind, here are the latest Leeds United transfer rumours.

Late Hugill swoop

Leeds United have made a late swoop to attempt to beat Manchester United to the services of Sunderland talent Joe Hugill, Football Insider reports.

The 16-year-old is poised to complete a move to the Premier League to join Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side at Old Trafford but the Whites have made a late push.

However, the teenager is said to have his heart set on a move to Manchester United and will pen a scholarship deal that runs until October, when it will then convert into a professional deal on his 18th birthday.

Joe Hart backed for transfer

Former England international Paul Robinson has backed Joe Hart to move to Leeds United in the next transfer window following his disappointing stint with Burnley.

The ex-Manchester City man has faced a significant decline in his career since leaving the Etihad Stadium, struggling to find a permanent home, but Robinson believes his next stop could be Elland Road.

“I think he’ll want to finish his career at the top level and at a good place and I think this is a real opportunity at Leeds," he told MOTLeedsNews.

“One thing I will say is that he’s got another four years at the top level, possibly more. If he came in you wouldn’t raise your eyebrows if he signed a four-year deal.”

Whelen urges QSI to invest

Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan believes that the current economic situation presents the perfect opportunity for the Qatari Sports Investment group to invest in the Whites.

QSI have regularly been linked with a move to invest in a Championship club, with Andrea Radrizzani having close ties to the group, and Whelan thinks it's still a good time to do business.

“Now is a good time to invest in football clubs, it really is. If Leeds United are up there and QSI are still interested is that they will get more for their money," he told Football Insider.

“It is unprecedented times and nobody knows how things are going to pan out financially or how this league is going to play out with no fans coming through the turnstiles. You can plan for it but you will not be bang on with the figures.

“The club need to protect themselves. The investment would be handy because it would give the club more financial security.”
