Latest Leeds United transfer rumours: Doubts over Augustin deal, Adams interest, White scenario

Leeds United's Championship restart is just around the corner, with the Whites set to face Cardiff City on Sunday.

With just nine games to go, the Whites are closing in on promotion back to the Premier League - and so also have to continue their planning for next season, whenever it may start.

Here are the latest transfer rumours from Elland Road.

Championship season so far

"Massive doubt" over Augustin deal

Noel Whelan says he is doubtful that Jean-Kevin Augustin will join Leeds United permanently.

The Whites have an obligation to buy the on-loan French striker from RB Leipzig for £18m should they win promotion to the Premier League.

Yet he has managed just three appearances since his January move and has suffered another injury blow ahead of the Championship restart next weekend.

It has left former Whites striker Whelan questioning whether any permanent deal will go through for the 22-year-old.

He told Football Insider : "I don’t know where it stands now on signing the player because it seems to me he’s struggling to keep himself fit and you don’t want to take a risk on a player you know nothing about really.

"You’ve not seen him fit at his best so it makes it a bigger risk now about making that signing permanent.

"There’s got to be something, you’d have liked to have thought they’d have put in he’s got to play a certain amount of games or minutes for this obligation to actually kick in.

"We’ve hardly seen him, Forshaw’s played more minutes than Augustin and he’s been injured since September!

"We still have no idea what this player’s going to offer us. It remains a massive doubt, there’s got to be a lot of talking to do to justify this signing, which would be a record signing."

Whites tipped to renew Adams interest

Former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson says he expects the club to renew interest in Southampton striker Che Adams this summer.

The Whites were keen on Adams in January after the striker struggled for game time following a summer move from Birmingham City.

Whilst he stayed at St Marys, Adam's future at the club is far from certain, and Robinson feels that will prompt Leeds into action this summer.

He told MOT Leeds News: "There's still a question over whether they saw him as a Championship goalscorer or a Premier League goalscorer.

"If he's struggling to get into Southampton's team will Leeds see him as a regular for them in the top flight?

"Saying that I'm sure he'll still be on the list because they pursued him so heavily in January."

Leeds tipped for White Liverpool deal

Kevin Phillips says Leeds United could well secure another loan deal for Ben White - provided he moves away from Brighton & Hove Albion.

The centre-back's form has caught the eye for the Whites this season and led to the likes of Liverpool being linked to him.

His loan at Elland Road is set to expire this summer and that could well provoke a flurry of interest in the player - something that Phillips predicts would be good news for Leeds.

He told Football Insider: "I see a scenario where he goes somewhere and getting loaned back to Leeds.

"He looks like he enjoys playing there and I do not think if he went to Liverpool that he would play straight away.

"A player that has played well all season but he could go to a Premier League club and not play.

"All of a sudden, like Che Adams, your career can take a bit of a backwards step. I want to see him continue to develop.”

"If he was to go to a top four or top six side but is not going to play I would like to see him get loaned back out and continue to grow.

"If that was back to Leeds it would be a massive coup for them. He is enjoying his football there and Bielsa is getting the best out of him."
