Latest Leeds United transfer rumours: Diagne tipped to succeed, approach for Arsenal youngster

The Championship looks to be edging nearer to a return, and we could well see Leeds United back in action next month.

Crunch meetings are expected this week, with plans hopefully confirmed on how England’s second-tier will return.

The break has, however, left a number of issues up in the air, not least the matter of the summer transfer window.

And although there is no action at this moment in time, that hasn’t stopped speculation of what business the club might do this summer.

With that in mind, here are the latest transfer rumours to come from Elland Road.

Diagne backed for transfer

Aston Villa winger Trezeguet is backing Mbaye Diagne to thrive in England, if he makes the move to Leeds United this summer.

Leeds are believed to have made 'concrete steps' in their approach to sign Diagne, who had spent the previous season on-loan with Club Brugge.

Along with Leeds - Nottingham Forest and Watford are also linked with the 28-year-old and he has revealed that he has been in contact with Trezeguet, who thinks he has all the qualities to thrive in the English game.

“We [Trezeguet] talk regularly and he keeps saying I would thrive in England," Diagne told the Guardian. "I’m big and strong, I can hold up the ball and lay it off, I’m good in the air and I’m a finisher.

"All I know is that, whether at Galatasaray or somewhere else, I am eager to get back playing and scoring again.”

Approach for Arsenal stopper

Leeds United are believed to have made an approach to sign Arsenal youngster James Hillson.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider that Hillson is on their radar as they look to continue their goalkeeping shake-up.

The report also claims that the 19-year-old is set to be handed a new deal by the Gunners before being loaned out for next season.

Hillson is yet to feature for Mikel Arteta’s side, but is believed to be one for the future after impressing in the club’s youth set-up since his move from Reading.

Hickey blow

Hearts youngster Aaron Hickey is set to snub the chance to move to England in favour of a return to Celtic.

Following the Scottish side’s relegation from the top-flight, Hickey is expected to leave the club this summer.

Leeds United, and a number of Premier League sides, have been all linked with the defender due to his impressive form.

But according to a report from 90min,  Celtic are expected to win the race for the 17-year-old’s signature.
