Latest Leeds United transfer rumours: Crystal Palace battle for forward, Charlie Allen update

It could be a busy summer for Leeds United – and it’s one they hope will result in them being in the Premier League for next season.

A decision is yet to be made on how the Championship season will be concluded, although the EFL expect the campaign to restart soon.

Also undecided at the moment is how the summer transfer window will pan out, although that hasn’t stopped the rumours.

Here is the latest round-up of transfer gossip coming out of Elland Road…

Palace enter battle for forward

Crystal Palace have entered the battle for young Reading forward Danny Loader, and could be in competition with Leeds for his signature according to Mail Online.

The England Under-20 international is out of contract at Reading next month, and looks set to leave the club on a free transfer.

Loader started out at Wycombe’s academy before making the move to the Madejski Stadium, and went on to make his debut at the age of 16 before making 22 appearances last season and 12 this term.

Swansea City have also been in the running for his signature, while Wolves reportedly tried to sign him back in January, so Leeds face plenty of competition.

Charlie Allen update

Leeds fans will have to wait a little while longer to see Charlie Allen make his move, with Football Insider reporting the club won’t complete the signing until the lockdown has ended.

United have reportedly reached an agreement to sign the 16-year-old from Northern Irish side Linfield in a deal understood to be worth £300,000.

Terms have apparently been agreed, but a source has said pandemic restrictions have prevented Leeds from signing off the transfer registering the player.

Nevertheless, all parties expect the paperwork to be completed later this summer.

Rae’s transfer regret

Former Scotland international Gavin Rae has spoken about why he decided to turn down a move to Leeds back in 2010.

The former midfielder was given the opportunity by then-Leeds boss Simon Grayson to make the move to Elland Road on loan, but Rae decided to turn it down – something he admits he now regrets.

“Even if it was it was a one-year permanent deal, I would have gone, but because it was a loan deal, it would have meant travelling between Cardiff and Leeds,” Rae told Wales Online.

“It was a big regret I didn’t get the chance, it’s a huge club and it would have been amazing to play for them. But it just didn’t work out.”
