Latest Leeds United transfer rumours: Buendia enquiry, Foyth talks, Toney update

Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United side are locked in a battle for promotion to the Premier League, and although they suffered a disappointing defeat to Cardiff City at the weekend, they will be confident of going up.

The planning for next season begins regardless, and unsurprisingly that means there are countless rumours of just who Bielsa is targeting.

With that in mind, here are the latest Leeds transfer rumours.

Emiliano Buendia enquiry

Leeds United have enquired about the availability of Emi Buendia, according to Read Norwich.

Buendia, 23, joined the Canaries from Getafe and was central to their promotion success last season under Daniel Farke. He has stepped up to the Premier League admirably and has been linked with Liverpool among other clubs.

He has endured a complicated relationship with Farke, however, seeing a brief spell out of the team before returning to the starting XI.

Unfortunately, the Canaries look set to be relegated from the top flight after just one season, and it is unlikely that Buendia will stay at Carrow Road if that is the case. That could open up a move to Leeds, who have reportedly asked about his availability

Ivan Toney backed for transfer

Former Leeds boss Steve Evans has told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph that he could see Ivan Toney moving to Elland Road.

Toney, 24, has been in sensational form in League One this season, and he was brought to the club by Evans from Newcastle United.

According to The Scottish Sun , Celtic and Rangers are interested in the striker who it is believed will cost in the region of £12million.

“I’d seen him play for Scunthorpe at the end of the previous season and he was virtually a one-man team,” Evans said when discussing signing Toney.

“I was confident he would become a star, and I can honestly see him leading the line at a Premier League club or at the biggest Championship club, Leeds United right now.”

Bielsa's Juan Foyth talks

Marcelo Bielsa has held talks with Mauricio Pochettino about potential Leeds signing Juan Foyth, according to Football Insider.

Foyth, 22, joined the club in 2017 but has seen his opportunities limited this season, with some predicting he may be on his way out of the club.

That is said to have alerted Bielsa to his availability, with the Leeds boss eager to improve his defensive options in case of promotion to the top-flight.

The report claims that Bielsa has reached out to his old friend Pochettino, who he worked with at Newell’s Old Boys, to get the low down on the defender.

That effort may be in vain, however, with the same report claiming Foyth would prefer a move to La Liga over remaining in England.
