Latest Leeds United transfer rumours: Blow in striker pursuit, Cellino plots return

Leeds United are currently top of the Championship table and have the best chance of being promoted back to the Premier League since their relegation in 2003.

However, with the EFL season, as well as the Premier League campaign, currently on hold due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, their chances of promotion remain uncertain.

The Whites are still being linked with players from across Europe, though, with Marcelo Bielsa having half an eye on adding to his squad for next season.

Here, we have gathered some of the latest rumours surrounding Leeds.

Blow in Larin pursuit

Leeds United have suffered a blow in the pursuit of Cyle Larin as the Canadian forward has expressed his desire to return to Turkey.

Plenty of reports regarding Leeds' interest in the 25-year-old have been relayed in recent months, with Victor Orta even trying to sign the forward during his time with Middlesbrough.

However, if Leeds are to pursue the addition of a new striker this summer then Larin appears to be off the cards, as he told Turkish outlets he wants to prove himself with Besiktas.

Larin has been in fine form during the 2019/20 season, scoring nine goals and setting up a further 11.

Cellino eyes return

Former Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino is interested in a return to English football with a potential takeover of Charlton Athletic mentioned, as reported by Leeds Live.

The 63-year-old never strayed too far from the headlines during his three-year stint at Elland Road, going through no fewer than six managers.

Since selling his stake in January 2017, Cellino returned to his homeland and purchased Serie A side Brescia but, with the side bottom of the table and Cellino said to be frustrated with Italy's handling of the coronavirus crisis, a return to England could be on the cards.

Cash-stricken Charlton are the side attracting his interest and a takeover could be easier to complete with the club's value dropping amid the coronavirus crisis.

Healy 'raving' about Allen

Linfield boss and former Leeds United forward David Healy will be 'raving' about young striker Charlie Allen as Leeds close in on a deal for the forward, Michael Brown has told Football Insider.

Leeds are reportedly leading the chase for the young forward, who made his debut for the Irish side at the age of 15, and Brown believes Healy will be giving him the lowdown on a move to Elland Road.

“Would he say good things about Leeds United? Undoubtedly, that’s not even a question. He’s a great lad is David, it’s great to see him doing well in the management side and developing a young player.

“Let’s be honest, there’s the league of Ireland and then you’ve got the EFL, League One, the Premier League, the Championship. This is generally where all players are wanting to head.”
