Latest Leeds United transfer rumours: Berardi future uncertain, Brighton competition for winger

Leeds United have taken the first steps towards reigniting their Premier League promotion push with Championship clubs returning to training on Monday.

The Whites still have a number of issues that need to be solved ahead of the Championship's planned resumption of the 2019/20 season, with protocols needed for contact training sessions and matches behind closed doors.

Encouragement has been provided by the return of action in Germany's top-two divisions and Spain now looks set to follow suit, with Italy also planning their own return.

While football hasn't been played, transfer rumours have continued to circulate and we have gathered some of the latest snippets regarding Leeds below.

Berardi future uncertain

The future of Leeds United defender Gaetano Berardi remains uncertain and largely hinges on how the 2019/20 season, The Athletic reports.

The one-time Switzerland international is due to see his contract at Elland Road expire at the end of the season, although a short-term extension could be agreed beyond the current June 30th end date.

However, any long-term renewal hinges on whether Leeds are successful in their push to secure promotion to the Premier League, the report states.

While the club and Bielsa are keen for Berardi to stay, there is some interest from the former Sampdoria man in returning to Italian football.

Brighton competition for winger

Leeds United face competition in the market from Brighton for the services of Blackburn Rovers winger Luke Brennan, Football Insider reports.

The 18-year-old has caught the attention of Leeds following his performances for Blackburn's U18 side and, despite the fact he's yet to appear for the senior squad, a battle for his signature is developing.

Leeds have shown that there is a pathway into the first-team for young players, which could appeal to Brennan, but potential Premier League football with Brighton may be tempting.

That said, Leeds could also find themselves in the top-tier next season and it could make for an interesting battle in the hunt for the teenager.

Casilla attracting interest

Leeds United goalkeeper Kiko Casilla is attracting interest from a number of Spanish sides ahead of the next transfer window, Football Insider states.

The 33-year-old former Real Madrid man has endured a difficult spell at Elland Road due to his lack of consistency and his ban issued for racism has allowed Ilan Meslier to stake his claim for the first-team jersey in the long run.

However, Casilla's reputation in his homeland remains strong and it's stated that a number of Spanish sides are keeping tabs on his situation.

His current £40k-a-week wages could be an issue though and he still has a number of years remaining on his contract at Elland Road.
