Latest Leeds United transfer rumours: Barkas bid, David to Lille, Allen deal close

The transfer window is now officially open as Leeds United get themselves ready for the first season back in the big time.

The Whites will of course be playing Premier League football once again next season, having won the Championship title this season.

Marcelo Bielsa will now be looking to get his side prepared for their long-awaited return to the top flight, and no doubt there will be some new faces arriving over the coming weeks.

Here are the latest transfer rumours and gossip coming from Elland Road.

David eyeing up Lille move

Leeds target Jonathan David is eyeing up a move to Lille this summer, according to the French club’s owner.

The Canadian forward looks set to leave Belgian side KAA Gent this summer, having made his desire to move to France clear.

Gent chairman Ivan de Witte recently said talks with Lille had come to a halt, before revealing Leeds were among the clubs with ‘much better proposals.’

Lille owner Gerard Lope though hasn’t given up hope, telling L’Equipe (via Sport Witness ): “The player absolutely wants to play for LOSC. He doesn’t want to go to another club. Our team is made for players of his character.

"Everything will depend on those in charge [at KAA Gent]. We may review our offer in the coming days”.

Celtic make second bid for goalkeeper

Celtic have reportedly made a second bid for Greek goalkeeper Vasilios Barkas, with the AEK Athens stopper also being linked with Leeds.

The Scottish champions are said to have had their initial offer of around £3.2million rejected for Barkas, and have now returned with a €4.5million offer, according to Ora ton Spor (via The Scotsman).

Barkas has emerged as one of Celtic’s top priorities this summer, with Neil Lennon searching for a new goalkeeper.

Leeds have reportedly also been interested in the 26-year-old, who is rated at around £6.5million by AEK, with the club having rejected €5million last summer from Montpellier.

Allen closing in on move

Linfield youngster Charlie Allen is closing in on a move to Leeds after bidding farewell to the Northern Ireland club.

The 16-year-old was reportedly given a goodbye party in his hometown of Carrickfergus on Saturday, and is expected to arrive in Yorkshire in the next few days.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the Whites are looking to confirm the teenager’s signing over the next week or so.

Allen has previously been linked to the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham, having made his senior debut for Linfield aged just 15.
