Latest League One predicted table is bad news for Bristol Rovers but good for Oxford United and Sunderland

It wasn't the happiest of first games for Ben Garner in charge of Bristol Rovers after his new side lost 2-1 to AFC Wimbledon.

And while Garner is confident that he can mastermind a win in the next game at Fleetwood Town, the Gas have now dropped down to sixth place in League One.

And as the festive period crammed with games continues, the expert at FiveThirtyEight has predicted how the final table will look after the Boxing Day fixtures.

Reknowned American statistican Nate Silver, via his FiveThirtyEight website , is widely considered to have devised the most accurate and comprehensive model for predicting how the current standings will bear out over the remaining games of the season.

And the latest prediction isn't good news for Bristol Rovers, who are now predicted to finish 11th, behind the likes of Sunderland and Fleetwood Town.

Current top side Wycombe Wanderers are expected to be toppled by Oxford United and Portsmouth are predicted to find form and finish in fourth place.

Using a number of metrics including current form, strength of future opponents, expected goals for and against and the market value of each respective squad, here is how FiveThirtyEight project the third tier to look on May 2.
