Latest injury update on Chiefs WR Sammy Watkins

Kansas City Chiefs WR Sammy Watkins is listed as questionable for Super Bowl LV after a full practice on Friday after spending the last several days as a limited participant.

So what does that actually mean for his potential availability against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? Apparently, signs are pointing toward Watkins suiting up and playing. Chiefs HC Andy Reid commented on the receiver following Friday’s practice.

“He did good,” Reid said told KC Star Reporter Herbie Teope via the NFL’s pool report. “I’m encouraged to have him on Sunday. I think he’ll be there.”

That doesn’t sound like the words of a coach that doesn’t expect to see Watkins out on the field for the Super Bowl.

In fact, this week of practice apparently went much differently for Watkins than the week ahead of the AFC Championship Game against the Buffalo Bills. According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, Watkins reaggravated his ailing calf injury the Friday ahead of that game. This time around, he’s all clear of any tweaks or reaggravations.

As it stands now, Watkins is trending toward playing. How he feels during tomorrow’s walkthrough after being a full participant in practice today will be telling as it relates to his status for Sunday’s game.
