Latest injury update on Bolton Wanderers captain Antoni Sarcevic ahead of Colchester United

Ian Evatt has confirmed there is still no timeframe on when Bolton Wanderers skipper Antoni Sarcevic might return from his injury despite him now being pain free.

The Wanderers captain has been out of action since having to come off with a torn hamstring in the first half of the win against Port Vale earlier this month.

He has been recovering from the injury and is now pain free, Evatt has confirmed.

But Wanderers are not rushing Sarcevic back into the fray due to the nature of the injury and the part of the hamstring which was damaged and not wanting to cause more significant damage by doing so.

Evatt said: "Sarce’s injury, it was a strange one in terms of it’s on the tendon and if it was in the belly of the hamstring it would be regulation really but with the tendon, it kind of complicates things because at the moment he’s pain free and he wants to kick on again.

"But because of where it is, there’s a risk of more significant and longer term damage and we don’t want to take that risk, so for now we’ll just keep monitoring him.

"He’s going to keep pushing, as he does and wants to and he wants to be everywhere to support the lads, whether that’s in the UniBol on Friday or in Wales on Monday, Sarce wants to be a big part of it, which is great.”

Aside from Sarcevic being absent, Wanderers have a clean bill of health heading into the clash at the University of Bolton Stadium on Good Friday.

Evatt added: "The players are really training on the edge and I’m not going to stop that and I’m not going to take that away from them.

"Obviously when they’re playing at that high tempo and high intensity and on that edge, you do risk injury and every tackle that goes in training, I’m ducking my head and closing my eyes but for now we’re all good.”
