Latest Greater Manchester coronavirus infection rates as cases continue to rise in Trafford

Coronavirus infection rates are continuing to rise in Trafford, with increases also recorded in five other Greater Manchester boroughs.

Cases fell in four areas, but in Trafford, they rose by 29 per cent compared with the previous week.

The borough has the highest recorded infection rates across our region, with 567.4 cases per 100,000 people.

The next highest week-on-week increase was in Bury, where rates increased by ten per cent.

While the number of cases fell in Tameside, Wigan, Oldham and Bolton, the latest statistics reveal.

Only Trafford, Tameside and Stockport have infection rates which are above the national average.

Across Greater Manchester, a total of 9,493 people tested positive for the virus in the week to October 2, 343 more than the previous seven days.

Hospital admissions

In the week ending on September 26, a total of 250 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is 31 fewer than the week before, a fall of 14 per cent.

On Tuesday September 28, there were 34 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is ten fewer than a week earlier.

This is the most recent available data for hospital admissions, the figures for NHS trusts are not updated daily.

Deaths

In the week ending October 2, a total of 32 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is three fewer than the week before.

Cases reported in each of the ten boroughs

In Wigan 1,057 people tested positive, 52 fewer than the previous week, representing a fall of five per cent.

The current infection rate stands at 319.6 cases per 100,000.

A total of 1,558 positive tests were recorded in Stockport, 98 more than the previous week.

There was a week-on-week rise of seven per cent, with the town's infection rate currently 529.6 cases per 100,000.

Cases are also on the rise in Salford, and are up by three per cent on the previous seven days.

A total of 817 people tested positive, an increase of 25.

The city's infection rate is currently 311 cases per 100,000.

In Bury 543 positive tests were recorded, 51 more than the week before, representing an increase of ten per cent.

The infection rate stands at 284.7 cases per 100,000.

Across Tameside cases fell by nine per cent compared to last week.

In total 1,030 people tested positive, 104 fewer than the previous figure.

The infection rate is currently 453.5 cases per 100,000.

In Manchester 1,235 people tested positive, 66 more than the previous week representing a six per cent week-on-week increase.

The city's infection rate is currently 222.2 cases per 100,000, the lowest in the region.

In Oldham there were 702 cases, 15 fewer than the previous week.

That represents a two per cent week-on-week decrease, with the town's infection rate currently 295.4 cases per 100,000.

Cases are on the rise in Rochdale by one per cent, compared with last week.

There were 506 positive tests, three more than the previous figure.

The town's infection rate stands at 226.2 cases per 100,000.

Across Trafford 1,348 people tested positive, 303 more than the previous week.

The infection rate is currently 567.4 cases per 100,000.

In Bolton, 697 people tested positive, 32 fewer than the previous week.

That represents a four per cent week-on-week fall, with the town's infection rate currently standing at 241.8 cases per 100,000.
