Latest Greater Manchester and national coronavirus deaths - with 21,331 further UK cases

Twenty two more people with coronavirus have died in hospitals in Greater Manchester.

It brings the death toll from the virus in the region's hospitals to 2,457.

Meanwhile, the total number of UK deaths recorded on Tuesday is 241 - a large rise from 80 further deaths recorded on Monday.

The latest government figures also show there has been a further 21,331 lab-confirmed cases in the UK on October 20 - up from 18,804 yesterday.

This brings the total number of cases to 762,542 and the total UK death toll to 43,967.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies show there have now been 58,500 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

Each the day the NHS gives an update on coronavirus related  fatalities recorded by hospitals trusts in England during the previous 24 hour period.

These are cases where a patient has tested positive or Covid-19 was mentioned on their death certificate.

Seven deaths were recorded by Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust, and five deaths recorded by Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

Three deaths were also recorded at Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, with two death recorded each at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, and Tameside & Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust.

One death was recorded at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust.

Nationally, NHS England said on Tuesday that a further 134 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died in hospital in England, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths reported in hospitals to 31,181.

Patients were aged between 36 and 100. All but six, aged between 68 and 91, had known underlying health conditions.

The deaths were between October 13 and 19.

Today's figures come as the Prime Minister is set to hold a coronavirus press conference shortly.

Boris Johnson is expected to set out the government’s next steps in relation to lockdown controls in Greater Manchester, No 10 said.

The briefing will take place at 5pm.

The total number of coronavirus deaths at hospital trusts in Greater Manchester, as of Monday October 19 is:

  • Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust - 501
  • NHS Nightingale Hospital North West - 6
  • Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust - 616
  • Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust - 6
  • Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust - 207
  • Stockport NHS Foundation Trust - 243
  • Tameside & Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust - 300
  • The Christie NHS Foundation Trust - 15
  • Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust - 289
