Latest forecast and UK Met Office weather warnings as rain and thunderstorms expected

Bristol has been warned to brace itself for stormy weather in coming weeks.

The city falls outside the zone for which a Met Office yellow weather warning for rain is in place on Wednesday (June 12) and Thursday.

But Bristol is set for its own extreme weather on June 21, 23, 24 and 25, when the Weather Channel forecasts thunderstorms.

The area is likely to see rain this Wednesday afternoon and throughout Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Sunday morning should provide a brief respite before a return of the downpours after midday.

These showers are expected to be less severe than in the Met Office's weather warning zone, which is active on Wednesday and Thursday.

The zone starts just above Worcester and includes most of the Midlands and north Wales, as well as the north east and parts of Scotland.

"Spells of heavy and persistent rain have the potential to bring flooding and disruption to transport in places across these areas," the Met Office says.

Bristol is likely to enjoy a rise in temperatures from the high teens this week to 20 degrees and above next week, with much less rain too.

But thunderstorms are likely to hit the city at the end of next week and continue into the week after.
