Latest figures show increase in Covid cases in all four areas across Bristol region

A further 17 cases were recorded in North Somerset over the past 24 hours, the biggest daily rise in two months.

The latest figures (September 8) show 1,006 people in the district have been diagnosed with the virus since the pandemic first began.

North Somerset has not recorded a daily increase larger than 17 since July 3, when the Government updated the way it reported new cases.

While in Bristol, five more people were diagnosed with the virus, bringing our city's total to 1, 576.

South Gloucestershire reported two new cases, which now has 872.

And Bath and North East Somerset recorded a rise of four, the total there is 439.

UK-wide, 2,460 tested positive, bringing the nation's total to 352,560.

Covid deaths

Neither of Bristol's hospital trusts have recorded a new death over the past 24 hours, where deaths remain at 271.

Southmead Hospital reported a coronavirus-related death on Tuesday August 25, which was the first in the city for two months.

Nationally, three further Covid-related deaths were recorded, bringing the UK's total to 41,554.

School outbreak

The figures were announced on the same day it was confirmed more than 50 students have been forced to self-isolate at a North Somerset school after one pupil tested positive for coronavirus.

A deep clean has been undertaken at Churchill Academy and Sixth Form after a student was diagnosed with the virus.

As a precautionary measure, 57 students, who are members of the same teaching bubble, will be in quarantine for 14 days.
