Latest figures show Bristol's Covid rate remains one of the highest in UK

There's been 126 further coronavirus cases confirmed across Bristol today (November 27).

The latest Government figures show Bristol now has a 300.2 rate per 100,000 people.

This is remains worryingly above England's 200.4 and the South West's 153.1.

Bristol's rate is also higher than Manchester's 245.6, Birmingham's 223.1 and Leeds' 266.7.

South Gloucestershire's confirmed 73 new infections today, its rate per 100,000 people stands at 210.8.

Across the Bristol region, five coronavirus-related deaths were confirmed today.

Three were in North Somerset, this district's rate per 100 people stands at 203.7.

Bristol and South Gloucestershire recorded one death each.

Meanwhile, Covid hospital admission across the South West remains high.

On Tuesday, 103 people were admitted to hospital with the virus - taking the overall total to 761.

The UK's coronavirus death toll has hit 57,551 after a further 521 people lost their lives.

If all deaths with Covid-19 on the certificate are included - rather than those where the person died within 28 days of a positive test - then the death toll rises to 66,713.

An additional 16,022 positive tests were recorded today, bringing the tally to 1,589,301 during the pandemic so far.

  • BANES: + 23 (3,540)
  • Bristol: +126 (14,959)
  • North Somerset: +51 (3,971)
  • South Gloucestershire: +73 (5,998)

R rate

The South West's R has fallen significantly this week as the UK's rate drops below one for first time in three months.

The South East now has the highest R in the country of 1.0 to 1.2.

London, which will enter a Tier 2 next week, has the second-highest with 1.0 and 1.1

While our region, the Midlands and East of England all have an R of 0.9 to 1.1 - this compares to the South west's 1.0 and 1.3 last Friday.

It means, on average, every 10 infected people will pass Covid on to between 9 and 11 others.

UK-wide, the average R is now 0.9 to 1.0
