Latest figures: More than 600 people have tested positive for coronavirus in Lanarkshire

The Scottish Government today said that 607 people have now tested positive for coronavirus in Lanarkshire.

That is an increase of 32 new cases, up from 575 yesterday.

It comes as 447  patients across Scotland who tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) have died.

Today’s figures also show that 256 people across Lanarkshire were in hospital at midnight, with confirmed or suspected coronavirus.

And 31 people in Lanarkshire were in intensive care at midnight, with confirmed or suspected coronavirus.

The Scottish test numbers for April show a total of 26,226 people have been tested across the country.

Of these:

■ 22,561 tests were confirmed negative

■ 4565 tests were positive

■ 212 patients who tested positive were in intensive care last night

■ 447 patients who tested positive have died

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: “Coronavirus is the biggest challenge of our lifetime and  measures we take to tackle it must reflect the magnitude of that.

“These measures are essential to slow down the spread of this virus. They are essential to reduce the peak impact of it.”
