Latest COVID infection rate for Perth and Kinross published as virus hotspots are revealed

The COVID-19 infection rate in Perth and Kinross dropped in the week up until Boxing Day, according to new figures.

The first set of data published by Public Health Scotland since before Christmas Day showed an infection rate in the region of 123.7 per 100,000 in the week up to December 26.

This was a fall from 148.7 the previous week.

The total number of positive cases was 188, compared with 226.

However, the percentage of positive tests only dropped by 0.1 per cent and now sits at 5.9 per cent.

The rate of infection is still higher than at the start of December when r 108 cases per 100,000 people were being discovered.

Neighbourhoods recording infection rates of over 200 per 100,000 include Alyth; Blairgowrie East; Central and South Inch; Invergowrie, Longforgan and Abernyte; Milnathort and Crook of Devon; Muthill, Greenloaning and Gleneagles; and North Muirton and Old Scone.

The rate across Scotland continues to increase. On Boxing Day it was 134.6 per 100,000, compared with 119 the week before.
