Latest covid figures for Bristol region show small daily rise

Fewer than 15 coronavirus cases were recorded in the Bristol region in the past 24 hours, the latest goverment figures show.

Bristol had the most covid cases confirmed (six) followed by South Gloucestershire (five).

In comparison, two cases were recorded in North Somerset and only one in Bath and North East Somerset.

The news comes after figures earlier this week showed more than 50 neighbourhoods across Bristol recorded fewer than three coronavirus cases in recent days.

That was an increase of more than 37 per cent in just over a week, when 37 areas in the city were recording such low number of cases.

In an email to residents on Thursday (May 6) night, director of communities and public health Christina Gray said: "The COVID-19 case rate in Bristol is now 12 cases per 100,000 which is lower than the England average of 23 per 100,000.

"To date, around 200,000 people in Bristol have received one or two doses of the vaccine, which is approximately 45 per cent of the population of Bristol over 16 years of age."Currently there are nine people in our local hospitals who are unwell with COVID-19.

"However, as we move into the next phase of unlocking, with more movement of people and work and leisure opening up, it is vital that we continue to keep infection rates low.

"This gives us time to continue to get the vaccine out, both in the UK and globally, and for science to stay ahead of the virus as it adapts and changes.

"Keeping to the rules and participating in testing will help us to do this."
