Latest COVID death figures in Perth and Kinross as cases continue to rise

No COVID deaths were recorded in Perth and Kinross last week despite a rise in cases as the vaccine continues to play its part in protecting people.

Data from the National Records of Scotland say the number of deaths attributed to the coronavirus stayed static at 269 in the week beginning August 23.

However, cases are continuing to rise in the region, with the current infection rate the highest since July 12.

The seven day infection rate currently sits at 322.6, although there are signs the current surge may be peaking.

Cases have been rising steadily in the region since the start of August having previously peaked at the start of July.

There were 490 positive tests recorded across Perth and Kinross between August 23 and 29 - 8.2 per cent of all tests.

That is an increase from 340 cases the week before.

Twelve neighbourhoods are now recording infection rates of above 400 per 100,000.

The worst affected area is Errol and Inchture with an infection rate of 614.1 per 100,000.

Other neighbourhoods in the highest infection range are: Glenfarg, Dunning and Rhynd; Muthill, Greenloaning and Gleneagles; Aberuthven and Almondbank; Milnathort and Crook of Devon; Western Edge; Powmill, Cleish and Scotlandwell; Auchterarder; Viewlands, Craigie and Wellshill; Letham; Kinross; Luncarty and Dunkeld.

Pitlochry and Alyth are the only places where the virus is considered to be suppressed.
