Latest Covid-19 deaths in Nottinghamshire as lockdown restrictions expected

The latest figures for Covid-19 deaths in Nottinghamshire have been revealed as local lockdown restrictions look set for Nottingham.

In the week ending September 25, four people died as a result of Covid-19 deaths across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, according to figures released on Tuesday, October 6 by the Office for National Statistics.

That was up from two the week before.

The numbers for the week ending September 25 include four deaths in hospitals, a rise from two a week before.

The figures are based on the number of deaths registered up to October 3, where Covid-19 is mentioned on the death certificate.

Overall, there have been 939 deaths across the city and county involving Covid-19 between the start of the outbreak and September 25.

Of those deaths, 540 were in hospital, with 353 in care homes.

There were also 36 deaths recorded at home, five in hospices, three in other communal establishments, and two elsewhere.

Other communal establishments include prisons, halls of residence, hotels, and sheltered accommodation, while elsewhere covers deaths outside and people declared dead on arrival at hospital.

There have been 1,465 positive cases in the city in the seven days leading up to October 3, and the infection rate has risen from 71.2 per 100,000 people to 440.1.

While a lockdown announcement hasn't yet been made, the Director of Public Health for Nottingham Alison Challenger has said they will be similar to those seen in Leicester and the north-west.

Government figures also give a more detailed picture of what is happening with Covid-19 deaths in care homes.

Separate figures from the Care Quality Commission (CQC), show two deaths involving coronavirus in care homes in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire in the week ending October 2.

That was up from none the week before.

Notifications about deaths in care homes are typically provided to the CQC within two to three days of death and are included based on the statement from the care home provider, so the person who died may not have had a medical diagnosis or a test result and Covid-19 may not have been mentioned on the death certificate.

The Government says there have been 42,445 people who had had a positive test result for Covid-19 and died within 28 days of the first positive test.
