Latest COVID-19 death figure for Perth and Kinross reveals progress but cases fall slows

Perth and Kinross did not register a single COVID-19 death last week for the first time in over a month.

Statistics for the week beginning July 26 from the National Records of Scotland show the total number of deaths stayed static at 266 since the pandemic began.

It is the first time since the week beginning June 21 that a death has not been recorded in Perth and Kinross.

Meanwhile, COVID cases in Perth and Kinross are continuing to fall, but there are signs the decrease is starting to slow.

In the four days up to and including August 1, the infection rate fell by just over 6.5 per cent, compared with nearly 28 per cent the previous four days.

In the week up until August 1, there were 143 COVID cases compared with 204 the week before.

The seven day infection rate per 100,000 people dropped from 134.3 to 94.1 in the same period, with the number of positive tests now sitting at 3.8 per cent.

The Western Edge in Perth has the highest infection rate in the region, recording 242.5, albeit after only 10 cases in a week.

Moncreiffe and Friarton is next with a rate of 221.2 after just nine positive tests.

Twelve neighbourhoods are considered to have suppressed the virus.

It comes as the region prepares to move beyond level zero restrictions on Monday next week.
