Latest coronavirus infection rates borough-by-borough as cases continue to fall across Greater Manchester

The coronavirus infection rate continues to fall in all 10 boroughs in Greater Manchester.

It raises hopes the second wave may have peaked in the region.

The latest Public Health England figures show that in the week to November 12 the Greater Manchester-wide infection rate was 440.5 cases per 100,000 people.

That's down 18% week-on-week.

But the region's infection rate is still far higher than the England average of 271.8.

However the nationwide average is up 10% week-on-week, suggesting the virus is yet to peak in many areas of the country.

Wigan saw the biggest drop in Greater Manchester.

Its rate of 464.9 was down 35% on the week before.

Oldham is still the worst-affected borough in the region.

But its infection rate has now dropped below 600 as the borough saw a 25% fall in cases.

Rochdale - the second worst affected region - saw its rate fall by 14% to 531.

But while that's welcome news, a number of areas in the borough are still experiencing a rise in cases, as the Manchester Evening News reported on Monday.

In September Manchester had the highest infection rate in the country following a spike in cases when students returned to university.

Now the city is the third least-affected borough in the region after its infection rate fell 16% to 385.3.

Trafford, with an infection rate of 361.5, down 7%, and Stockport, 339.1, down 13% are the two areas with the lowest number of cases in the region.
