Latest coronavirus cases confirmed in Bristol as UK set for highest European death toll

Bristol now has 634 confirmed Covid-19 cases following a rise of eight yesterday (May 3).

The data comes on the same day it's been revealed the UK's death toll has nearly overtaken Italy's - which currently has the highest number of deaths in Europe.

A staggering 28,446 people have lost their lives after contracting the virus in the UK - 162 of those were in Bristol.

As of 5.09pm today (May 4), Public Health England's figures show South Gloucestershire has 356 confirmed coronavirus cases following a rise of four.

And a further two people have contracted the deadly virus in North Somerset, bringing the district's total to 256.

Over the last week the number of people with coronavirus in UK hospitals has fallen from 15,322 to 13,258 - a decrease of 13 per cent.

Figures also show, the North West has overtaken London in terms of hospital admissions over the last two days.

While earlier today, North Somerset Council leader Don Davies urged people to shout at anyone spotted breaching lockdown rules.

He said: "The best thing is moral pressure. Shout at them if you can - say ‘oi!’”
