Latest confirmed coronavirus case figures for Leeds as death toll reaches 30

More than 200 people have tested positive for coronavirus in Leeds and a total of 30 people have now died in the city after contracting the virus.

Public Health England says there are now 203 confirmed cases of the virus in Leeds, after another 11 were diagnosed over the last 24 hours.

That means the number of cases in Leeds has risen by 202 per cent over the last seven days, as there were 67 cases on Thursday, March 26.

Public Health England says there are now 33,718 confirmed cases of the virus in the UK and 2,921 people have died.

In Yorkshire, there are 1,823 confirmed cases and the death toll has reached 146.

LeedsLive understands Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has cleared dozens of beds and closed several wards at Leeds General Infirmary, as staff prepare for more coronavirus patients.

Yesterday, an Army helicopter landed at the hospital to drop off personnel who are working on the military’s response to the pandemic.

Harrogate Convention Centre is also being transformed into an NHS Nightingale Hospital to provide hundreds of extra beds for coronavirus patients in Yorkshire.

The UK remains under lockdown as the government has ordered people to only leave their homes under a list of “very limited purposes”, banned public gatherings of more than two people and ordered the closure of non-essential shops, schools, pubs and restaurants.

However, Boris Johnson is now sending a letter to 30 million UK households, in which he outlines even stricter lockdown rules which could come into place.
