The Miami Dolphins won’t have to wait long in April to find themselves on the clock in the 2020 NFL Draft. But the Dolphins, along with the rest of the league’s players, are now officially on the clock in a completely different capacity — renewing the league’s collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
The NFL and the NFLPA have been working diligently to put together an acceptable proposal for an extension of the current CBA, which is set to expire after the 2020 season. There has been some public pushback to the new proposal by some of the league’s more prominent players — yet there seems to be momentum for the deal due to the lower income players within the league.
The voting ballot for ratification was sent out this morning at 9 AM EST.
If the league passes this proposal, it will mark as an averted crisis for all involved — fans, owners, players, sports media and more. We won’t know until late next week on whether or not the proposal has been passed, but after several weeks of tweaks and deliberations, we now finally have a document set for delivery to the players.
Should the new proposal not be passed, the league will certainly continue to maneuver for an extension this summer in an effort to guarantee there is no work stoppage — but there’s still no guarantees that these efforts will be successful. That is, of course, until this 7-day voting period comes to a close and the results are tallied.
