Latest Chelsea transfer rumours: Wilfried Zaha update, Timo Werner conundrum, £25m bid incoming

The January transfer window is now open, and Chelsea look set to do plenty of business this month.

With their transfer ban now overturned, the Blues are free to dip back into the market, and manager Frank Lampard is set to be handed a big budget to play with.

And as they look to secure their top four place in the Premier League, the Chelsea boss will be keen to strengthen his side as much as he can over the coming weeks.

Here’s a round-up of the latest transfer news, rumours and gossip from Stamford Bridge.

Lampard tight-lipped over Zaha

Frank Lampard wouldn’t be drawn over the possibility of Chelsea signing Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha.

Following the Blues’ 1-1 draw with Brighton on New Year’s Day, the Chelsea boss was asked about the potential of Olivier Giroud being sent to Selhurst Park as part of a deal for Zaha, .

"I wouldn’t talk about Zaha and the idea of that deal is something I have never even considered," he said.

"If we have to do business we will do it in the way we see fit to try and make us better and that’s behind closed doors as opposed to just announcing who we might want to bring in."

Werner conundrum for Blues

Frank Lampard is reportedly keen to pursue a move for £51million-rated striker Timo Werner, but has doubts over how it could affect Tammy Abraham.

Chelsea look set to do some big business during the January window, having had their transfer ban overturned.

And Lampard has set his sights on RB Leipzig frontman Werner , who has 18 goals so far in this season’s Bundesliga.

The Chelsea boss is keen not to halt Abraham’s development though, with the young striker flourishing after being made first choice striker this season.

Inter prepare offer for Emerson

Inter Milan are prepared to offer Chelsea £25 million for Emerson Palmieri, but any move would depend on whether Frank Lampard can find a replacement in January.

Emerson and fellow left-back Marcos Alonso have fallen out of favour under Lampard, although a departure for either would leave the Blues short of options.

Juventus are also understood to be interested in the 25-year-old, although Inter are considered the more likely destination should a move go through.

Leicester’s Ben Chilwell is Lampard’s preferred target at left-back, although the Foxes are determined to keep hold of their star players.
