Latest Chelsea transfer rumours: Werner warning, Rice wanted, Emerson told to quit

Chelsea’s Premier League campaign is currently on hold for the foreseeable future due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The pandemic has brought the country to a standstill, with top-flight football now suspended until April 30 at the earliest.

And with no on-field action now able to take centre stage,  it is most likely that transfer talk will dominate the headlines in the coming weeks and months.

With that in mind, here is a round-up of the latest transfer rumours involving the Blues.

Chelsea's player of the season so far

Werner warning

Red Bull Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosche has hinted that Timo Werner could stay at the club beyond the summer due to the impact of coronavirus on the Premier League.

Werner was heavily linked with a January move to Chelsea as Frank Lampard searched for a striker in order to take the goalscoring burden off top scorer Tammy Abraham.

However, a move never materialised meaning that the Blues would have to wait until the summer to continue their pursuit.

It’s not only the player’s club who stand in the way of a potential move to Stamford Bridge for Werner, with Liverpool also said to be interested in the German striker.

"England has the same problems as we do,” he told Sport1.“Their investors also have economic constraints. The crisis affects not only one industry, but has global effects."

Rice wanted

Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing West Ham midfielder Declan Rice this summer.

Rice, who is a close friend of Blues midfielder Mason Mount, is on the Blues’ radar according to Sky Sports.

Rice has played 30 times for the Hammers in all competitions this season and has also registered seven caps for England, but won’t come on the cheap.

Emerson told to quit Chelsea

Emerson has been urged to return to Serie A and stake a claim for Italy's European Championship squad by national boss Roberto Mancini.

The 25-year-old has largely struggled to feature under Frank Lampard this season and has largely been handed a watching brief.

“As for the full-backs, we knew Adam Masina, although he disappeared from the radar a bit after his move to Watford,'' the former Man City boss told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Luca Pellegrini already spent time with the senior squad and can improve. It would be nice if Emerson Palmieri, who hasn't played much for Chelsea, could come and play in Italy.”
