Latest Chelsea transfer rumours: Waldschmidt bid, Coutinho talks start and Upamecano boost

Chelsea’s season may be on hold as the world battles the coronavirus crisis, but that has not stopped reports claiming they are looking ahead and planning their summer transfer business.

It remains to be seen when the transfer window will open this summer, as leagues and associations battle to conclude their current campaigns.

But managers, and their recruitment staff, are believed to be keeping busy in isolation by planning deals well in advance, if the latest reports are to be believed.

With that in mind, here are the latest transfer rumours from Chelsea.

No Waldschmidt bid

German side Freiburg have moved to deny claims they have received a bid from Chelsea for forward Luca Waldschmidt.

Reports in Germany claimed the Blues have opened talks over a £20million move for Waldschmidt, who has scored 14 goals in 45 games for the Bundesliga side.

"It is clear that Luca is rightly interesting for other clubs. However, no contact has been made in this case. We don't know anything about it," Freiburg's sporting director Clemens Hartenbach told Bild.

Coutinho talks start

Chelsea have moved a step closer to sealing a deal for Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho.

Spanish publication Diario Sport claim Barca and Chelsea have already started negotiations over a deal this summer.

However, the report also claims that the Blues are hoping to bring down the €90 million (£79m) price tag the Spanish side currently have on the Brazil international.

Upamecano wants Premier League move

They claim the RB Leipzig defender believes he's better suited by Premier League football than other European leagues.

The latest from the Upamecano camp will be a blow for Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona, who believed to be actively trying to secure the centre-back's signature this summer.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United are believed to be interested in Upamecano, who has a £52.5million release clause in his contract.
