Latest Chelsea transfer rumours: Upamecano warning, Haaland decision, duo in contract talks

The end of the 2021 January transfer window is not likely to throw up any late surprises as far as Chelsea are concerned.

After spending north of £220million during last summer's window, this month was always destined to be a quiet period, certainly in terms of incomings, at Stamford Bridge, regardless of league position and managerial changes.

In truth, it is highly unlikely, despite Thomas Tuchel's arrival earlier this week, that Chelsea will add any new faces to the squad before the window closes on Monday evening. However, there could prove to be a departure or two, with the short-term future of midfielder Billy Gilmour yet to be decided on.

Thomas Tuchel on 'clever' Billy Gilmour's situation

Although the ending of the window could prove to be fairly quiet in this particular corner of west London, Chelsea are already putting plans in place for the summer window, which is likely to act as Tuchel's first opportunity to put his own stamp of authority on the squad he inherited from Frank Lampard.

With that in mind, here is a round-up of all the very latest Chelsea transfer news, rumours and gossip ahead of the final two days of the window.

Duo in talks over new deals

Centre-back Thiago Silva and Italian international Jorginho are locked in talks with Chelsea about extending their respective contracts at Stamford Bridge.

Silva joined the Blues on a one-year deal last summer following his departure from Paris Saint-Germain and is yet to commit his future beyond the end of the season. Midfield ace Jorginho, meanwhile, is contracted to the club until the summer of 2023, but, according to a report by sportitalia, as cited by the Mail, he could be offered the chance to extend his deal until the end of the 2024/25 season.

Should Jorginho pen a new deal at Stamford Bridge it would probably come as a big surprise to a large portion of Chelsea fans, considering he has been close to leaving the club and returning to his homeland in the last 12 months.

Tuchel eyes Haaland swoop

Prior to Tuchel's arrival at Stamford Bridge, it was heavily documented that Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland would be Chelsea's top transfer target for the forthcoming summer window.

Whilst most managers like to identify their own targets, it is reported that Tuchel would happily back Chelsea if they were to launch a move for the Norway international.

According to Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano, who appeared on The Si Phillips Talks Chelsea Podcast, Tuchel is very keen on signing the striker.

However, Chelsea will not be alone in the race to sign Haaland, with clubs from all over Europe keen on securing his signature.

Chelsea receive Upamecano update

RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano is another player who is likely to be at the centre of a transfer tug of war in the summer, with no shortage of clubs being interested in him.

Amongst the clubs keen on landing his signature are Chelsea and German giants Bayern Munich.

Hasan Salihamidzic, Bayern's director of sport, has confirmed that the Bundesliga club have met with his agents over the prospect of signing him.

Salihamidzic said: “Upamecano to Bayern? Of course we are thinking about him. We had a good meeting with his agents yesterday. Let’s see what happens."

According to a recent report in the national media, Leipzig are willing to sell Upamecano, 22, in a cut-price deal this summer, allowing him to leave for £37.4million.
