Latest Chelsea transfer rumours: Lionel Messi deal revealed, Tomori opens up on loan option

The summer transfer window is now officially shut following the closure of the domestic window on Friday.

Chelsea can no longer buy or sell players until the January window opens, meaning Frank Lampard will have to go with what he has for now.

Though, the Blues boss ha plenty after spending more than £200million on new signings during the summer transfer window, snapping up a whole host of new signings.

And rumours are already beginning to gather ahead of the January window, involving both incoming and exits from Stamford Bridge.

Below we round up the latest from the rumour mill as it relates to Chelsea.

Tomori reveals why he refused loan

Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori has revealed why he refused to leave the club on loan during the transfer window.

Tomori was said to have been offered the chance to join West Ham on loan but decided to stay at Chelsea.

Speaking about the situation, he told the Chelsea Mike’d Up Podcast: “I made the decision in the end to stay, to improve more, get some more games, gain some more experience and try and get to the levels I was at last season.”

Tomori faces plenty of competition at centre-back following the arrival of Thiago Silva this summer.

Martinez interest

Lautaro Martinez reportedly rejected the chance to join Chelsea during the summer window.

According to Tutto Mercato, Martinez was reportedly an alternative to summer signing Timo Werner but deemed himself not interested in the move anyway.

Martinez has already scored three goals and assisted one this season, continuing to impress for Inter.

His form last season, scoring 21 and assisting seven in 49 games across all competitions may have piqued Chelsea's interest, but they got their number one target Werner anyway.

Chelsea had Messi deal in the works

Chelsea were once close to pulling off a deal for Barcelona superstar Barcelona.

According to Gianluca DiMarzio, Chelsea were ready to activate the Barca star's €250m release clause and also pay a net wage of £50m per season.

But, of course, the deal did not come about.

Jose Mourinho was asked about it by Sky Sports, and he replied: "I never speak about my history and what I leave in previous clubs.

"I don't even think I could write a book or something. What happened happened."
