Latest Chelsea transfer rumours: Jorginho makes exit claim, Havertz, Werner made Blues worse

Despite Chelsea spending more than £200 million during the summer transfer window, Frank Lampard’s side have endured a mixed start to the 2020/21 season.

The Blues overcame both Brighton and Hove Albion and Crystal Palace but drew 3-3 with Southampton and West Bromwich Albion. Their lasting outing, a 0-0 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford, was also underwhelming.

Lampard is still attempting to bed in the likes of Ben Chilwell, Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz and Timo Werner to the squad, and as January inches ever closer he may once again wish to dip into the transfer market.

With that in mind, here are the latest Chelsea evening rumours.

Jorginho was open to summer exit

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho was open to the possibility of moving to Arsenal during the summer transfer window.

The Brazilian-born Italy international was linked with a move to the Gunners, where he would have linked up with former team-mate Willian, but the transfer never happened, despite the two clubs holding talks.

Jorginho told ESPN Brazil: “I believe that every player is open to negotiations. So I believe there was something they talked about and, in the end, it was decided, chosen that I stay here.

“And now my head is here and were going to do a great job with Chelsea, which I always wanted to do.”

Chelsea were better last season - Sinclair

Chelsea are a worse side due to their summer of spending, at least according to former England international Trevor Sinclair.

Sinclair, an ex-teammate Lampard, was impressed with how the club's academy graduates – including Fiyako Tomori, Mason Mount, and Tammy Abraham –were incorporated into the first team last season.

The Blues spent more than £200 million ahead of the 2020/2021 campaign, though, but have dropped seven points already.

“I’m still up in the air with my opinions about Chelsea,” Sinclair told talkSPORT.

“Frank came in at Chelsea and did really well last season, but this year, since he had that money to spend in the summer...I’m just not sure which way it is going to go.”

Brewster’s Chelsea signing remembered

Chelsea signed Rhian Brewster to their academy almost immediately after watching him in a youth game.

Brewster – who joined Sheffield United from Liverpool in the summer transfer window – was playing at the Shield Academy when Chelsea scout Martin Taylor spotted him.

His former coach Daniel Seymour told The Sun: “I remember Rhian’s first match, I asked him to stand in right midfield. He was clueless and had no idea what I was asking.

“He stood on the edge of the area in this seven-a-side game, looking like he didn’t know what was going on. All of a sudden, the kick-off happened, and the ball went to him, and I thought, ‘What’s he going to do?’

“And the first thing Rhian did in the first ten seconds was take the ball past every single player, walk it in, pick the ball up and put it on the spot again.

“Martin came over and stood next to me and asked where he was from. It was at that exact moment, he decided Rhian had to be a Chelsea player.”

Brewster signed for the Blues when he was eight and went on to play alongside Reece James and Conor Gallagher before quitting the club for Liverpool when he was 14 years old.
