Chelsea’s ambition in this summer’s transfer market is very clear - they want to get closer to the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City next summer.
The Blues appear to be on the brink of signing one or two more players, as well as Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, who have already signed.
Frank Lampard will be determined to build on an impressive start to life as Chelsea boss, finishing in the top-four despite not being able to sign players last summer.
However, it’s a very different story this time around, and Lampard is wasting no time - here are the very latest Chelsea-related transfer stories.
Blues’ stance on Oblak
Chelsea are “very attentive” to Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak’s situation at the Spanish club, according to AS, via Sport Witness.
Lampard is reportedly not too keen on Kepa Arrizabalaga, and after dropping him on two separate occasions last season, the evidence would suggest that as well.
According to the report, the Slovenia shot-stopper is “frustrated” after Atletico’s failure to win silverware last season and has “some doubts” about the club’s long-term project.
Oblak reportedly has a €120million release clause in his contract, and Chelsea, as well as PSG, are watching for developments.
Chelsea considering bid for Rennes ‘keeper
Chelsea are contemplating a bid for Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, according to highly-regarded Twitter account @ExWHUemployee, via Sports Mole.
As mentioned above, the Blues are in the market for a new goalkeeper following Kepa’s performances last season.
Mendy made 28 appearances for the French club in all competitions last season, helping the club qualify for the Champions League.
The 28-year-old only signed for Rennes last summer, but the financial problems caused by the coronavirus pandemic may force the Ligue 1 club to sell their goalkeeper.
Inter see Emerson as “chosen one”
Inter Milan see Chelsea full-back Emerson Palmieri as the “chosen one”, according to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport.
Emerson has been linked with a move to Inter for a while now, with recent reports saying that former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is a fan of the full-back.
The report states that they already have an agreement in place with Emerson, and talks have already begun between the two clubs.
Inter would prefer not to pay north of €20m for him, but the Blues would like at least €5m more for the 26-year-old.
