Latest Chelsea transfer rumours: Fresh Mertens boost, Onana wants move, Blues join Kokcu race

Chelsea now hold just a two-point gap to fifth-place in the Premier League following Sheffield United's 2-1 win over AFC Bournemouth on Sunday, cranking up the pressure on the Blues' shoulders to bag a Champions League place.

The Blues went into the weekend four points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur, who held 5th heading into the weekend, but the Blades' victory on Sunday has lifted them to within two points of the top four.

Though Chelsea have a game in-hand on Chris Wilder's side, Frank Lampard's men will be feeling a sense of pressure when they resume their Premier League campaign at home to Manchester United next Monday evening.

It has been well over a week since the Blues last played and this period of time without a game will have presented head coach Lampard with plenty of time to get some plans together for the summer transfer window, as he looks to add to his squad.

Here, we round-up the day's very latest Chelsea transfer news.

Mertens offers Chelsea hope

Napoli striker Dries Mertens has offered Chelsea hope that they may be able to sign the Belgium international in the summer, according to the Express.

Mertens, 32, was heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge throughout the January transfer window, as Lampard looked to add a fresh face to his attacking line.

But no such move ever materialised. Now, though, it is claimed that Mertens and his wife would one day be open to moving to London, meaning Chelsea's hopes of signing the Napoli star may be revisited this summer.

Onana chooses Chelsea

Blues boss Lampard has plans to offload goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga this summer, after the club-record signing's performance levels dropped in recent weeks.

Arrizabalaga was left out of the side that drew with Leicester City last weekend, with Willy Caballero preferred between the sticks.

And according to a report in the Daily Star, it appears that Chelsea have already sourced their replacement, with Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana choosing to make the switch to Stamford Bridge in the summer, snubbing an approach from Tottenham.

Blues enter Kokcu race

Chelsea have joined London rivals Arsenal in the race to sign young Feyenoord midfielder Orkun Kokcu, according to Turkish Football.

The 19-year-old Dutchman has been a real livewire for the Eredivisie club this season, delivering a string of fine performances.

Arteta would like to rap the deal up before UEFA Euro 2020 kicks-off in June and it could cost the Gunners £15million.
