Latest Chelsea transfer rumours: Frank Lampard pushes for £80m deal, eighth signing close

Chelsea have just three weeks to get their final transfer deals over the line and to wrap up what has been one of the busiest summer's in the club's history.

Frank Lampard’s side have added six new arrivals as the club look to close the gap to Manchester City and Liverpool.

Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell, Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Malang Sarr and Thiago Silva have all been signed with many featuring in Monday night's 3-1 win over Brighton and Hove Albion.

And this morning's big transfer rumours suggest that there could be even more business yet to conclude at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard "pushing in the background" for West Ham star

Chelsea are said to still be "pushing in the background" for a deal to bring £80million-rated West Ham midfielder Declan Rice to Stamford Bridge.

That's according to TalkSport's transfer reporter Alex Crook who said that, despite Frank Lampard's best efforts, he expects the Hammers to cling on to their man.

Crook said: "“My understanding is the owners are desperate to keep hold of Declan Rice.

“Chelsea are still pushing in the background, but it would take a massive offer and I don’t see it happening.”

Chelsea close to landing Kepa replacement

Chelsea are "close" to landing Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy this summer, despite Lampard saying he is happy with Kepa between the posts.

A report by Evening Standard claims that Blues are expecting to get the deal done before the transfer window shuts.

That deal would take their total summer transfer spend up to a whopping £250m.

But yesterday, after his side's win over Brighton, Lampard told reporters that he was happy with Kepa: "I’m not sure if he could’ve done any better."

He continued: "I saw a bit more confidence in how he was playing. Kepa is here, he’s our keeper and I’m happy with him."

Blues midfielder set for loan move

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher is set to join West Bromwich Albion on loan for the season after signing a new deal at Stamford Bridge, football.london understands.

Gallagher looked set to move to Crystal Palace on loan before Michy Batshuayi joined the London-based club.

And the Premier League’s rules are that a team is only allowed to sign one player on a temporary deal from another club.

Newly-promoted West Brom entered the race to sign the England Under-21 international, and it looks like they have secured the deal.

Gallagher was on loan at Charlton Athletic last season, and then Swansea City, and excelled in the Championship.
