Latest Chelsea transfer rumours: Denis Zakaria battle, Barkley update, £72m Hudson-Odoi deal

Chelsea were held at home to Sevilla in their Champions League opener on Tuesday evening.

It’s been a mixed start to the season for Frank Lampard’s side, who have a host of new signings who still need to settle in at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard saw a mass influx of new players join the Blues in the summer, and could still look to add to his squad in the January window.

Here are the latest Chelsea-related transfer stories.

No discussions over permanent Barkley exit

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has admitted there have been no talks over a permanent deal for Chelsea’s Ross Barkley yet.

Barkley joined Villa from the Blues in the summer, and has impressed so far for Smith’s side - who have made a perfect start to their second season in the Premier League.

The 26-year-old has scored twice for his temporary side, and when asked about if the midfielder will move to Villa Park permanently, the Villa boss wasn’t quite sure.

Smith said: ““It’s nothing that’s been talked about. Originally, our discussions with Chelsea were just to get him on loan until the end of the season and give him some minutes.”

Blues interested in Zakaria

Chelsea are interested in signing Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria, according to BILD reporter Christian Falk.

The Blues appear to be in a battle with Premier League rivals Manchester United for the 23-year-old.

Lampard is clearly after a new defensive midfielder, with West Ham United star Declan Rice being consistently linked with a move to West London.

However, according to Falk, Chelsea are now looking at the Switzerland international but will face stern competition.

Chelsea not looking to sell Hudson-Odoi

Chelsea do not want to sell winger Callum Hudson-Odoi in January, according to Fabrizio Romano, when speaking on the Here We Go podcast.

Bayern Munich came in for the 19-year-old over the summer, but wanted a permanent option once his loan deal was up, something the Blues were not willing to do.

Likewise, according to Romano, Hudson-Odoi does not want to leave the London-based side.

If the European champions do come back in for the teenager next summer, then they would have to offer €80m (£72m) for the Blues to consider selling him.
