Latest Chelsea transfer rumours: Blues rocked by Lionel Messi transfer blow, Ajax star linked

Chelsea return to Premier League action in just over two weeks time and Frank Lampard is looking to sharpen up his squad before the trip to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Lampard is preparing for his second season in charge at Stamford Bridge, and has already added five new faces to his squad this summer.

There were two early bits of business for the Blues, in the shape of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, who are still being linked with a host of new players as they look to make progress from their fourth-placed finish last season.

With that being said, here are the very latest Chelsea transfer rumours.

Lionel Messi latest

It's been another busy day in Spain with all things Lionel Messi as he continues to be linked with a move to the Premier League

La Liga have released an official statement siding with Barcelona and stating any buyer will have to trigger his £630million release clause.

That leaves Manchester City and Chelsea facing a huge conundrum if they're to snatch him from the La Liga giants.

Here, Football.London rounds up the latest reports.

Chelsea lead race for Ajax starlet

Chelsea are leading the race to sign Ajax teenager Amourricho van Axel Dongen.

The 15-year-old has been scouted by the likes of Manchester United and their rivals Manchester City with a lot of interest in his signature.

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea are also after forward Van Axel Dongen, who turns 16 next month.

The report states that Van Axel Dongen has also been watched by United and City but it's the Blues who stand the best chance of signing him.

Connor Gallagher update

Connor Gallagher is set to head on loan again this summer after signing a new contract.

The midfielder spent last season with Charlton Athletic and Swansea City and has interest from West Brom and Brighton.

The Sun report that Gallagher will be allowed temporarily again this summer but only after he has penned fresh terms.
