Chelsea suffered their first defeat of the new season yesterday as reigning champions Liverpool beat the Blues 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.
A red card for Andreas Christensen just before half-time completely changed the game for Frank Lampard’s side, who lost due to a Sadio Mane brace in the second period.
However, as Lampard said after the game, it is going to take some time for Chelsea’s new boys to settle into life at the club.
It appears the Blues are still keen on adding to their squad before the transfer window shuts in two weeks, and here are the very latest rumours from around Europe.
Blues look for new holding midfielder
Chelsea are interested in bringing a new holding midfielder to the club, according to a report in The Athletic.
The report claims that Lampard does not count N’Golo Kante as the deepest midfielder, and there are growing doubts over Jorginho’s ability to play that role.
The Blues have been continuously linked with a move for West Ham United star Declan Rice this summer, but know he would cost in the region of £80m.
Lampard is after a more robust central defensive midfielder, who can win the ball back throughout the game and provide a strong shield to the Chelsea backline.
Real Madrid striker rejected Blues move
Real Madrid forward Luka Jovic rejected the chance to move to Chelsea earlier in the summer, according to Spanish outlet AS, via Sports Mole.
Jovic joined the La Liga champions last summer but endured a difficult first campaign in the Spanish capital.
The report claims that the Blues offered the Serbian striker a way out of the Santiago Bernabeu, after making an approach.
However, Jovic wanted to stay at Madrid and he is determined to prove himself following a big-money move from Eintracht Frankfurt before the start of last season.
Chelsea defender set to move to France
Chelsea defender Jake Clarke-Salter is set to move to Ligue 1 club Brest later this week, according to Football Insider.
Clarke-Salter has had strong interest from several Championship clubs this summer - mainly Nottingham Forest and Birmingham City - but he looks set to move to France instead.
The 22-year-old could have a 'major role' in the Brest team this season if a move is sealed, the report states.
The Blues defender signed a new contract at Stamford Bridge last summer, and it runs until the summer of 2022.
