Latest Chelsea transfer rumours: Blues make Coutinho move, Pjanic linked, Werner update

The future of the remainder of the 2019/20 Premier League campaign remains in limbo following the outbreak of the coronavirus.

The Premier League, alongside the EFL, announced last week that all matches had been suspended until the first weekend in April in an attempt to slow down the spread of COVID-19.

But with the number of confirmed cases of the virus in the UK only increasing, it is highly unlikely that the season will resume on April 4.

The Premier League is set to hold a meeting on Thursday to discuss all of the possible outcomes that may need to be implemented over the next few weeks and months.

The state of play at Chelsea and the goalkeeper situation

Though this period of uncertainty is no good for anybody, it could hand Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard the chance to sit down and work out some plans for the forthcoming summer transfer window, as he looks to add to the signing of Ajax star Hakim Ziyech, who will join the club in July.

With that in mind, here is a round-up of the day’s very latest Chelsea transfer news.

Blues plot Coutinho move

Chelsea have enquired about the possibility of signing Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho on loan this summer, report Sport.

The former Liverpool star, who joined Barcelona in January 2018 for a fee north of £100million, has struggled to hit the heights in La Liga, so much so that he has spent this season on loan in Germany at Bayern Munich.

But with Bayern looking unlikely to consider the option of signing him on a permanent basis, it leaves the door open on his future.

And it is reported that Chelsea are looking into the possibility of bringing him back to England, with them considering a season-long loan deal.

Chelsea eye £55m deal

Chelsea are contemplating a summer bid for Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic this summer, according to Sports Mole.

After a very quiet two transfer windows at Stamford Bridge, the cheque book could take a considerable hammering this summer, with a £55million move for the Bosnia and Herzegovina midfielder on the cards.

The 29-year-old has been a key part in Maurizio Sarri's plans in Turin this season, scoring three goals and claiming four assists in 32 appearances in all competitions.

Despite that, Juventus willing to offload him this summer if the price is right.

Timo Werner latest

German magazine Sports Bild is reporting that RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner is 'likely' to seal a move away from the club this summer, further fueling speculation about his future.

The 24-year-old Germany international is attracting big interest from a host of clubs, including the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United.

Werner is reportedly favouring a switch to Anfield this summer but there does not appear to be much movement at present in that deal happening any time soon.

Should nothing come to fruition, Chelsea could be waiting in the wings to pounce, as Lampard looks to bolster his attack.
