Latest Chelsea transfer news: Jadon Sancho 'statement signing', Blues eye French wonderkid

The January transfer windows has been open for 16 days yet Chelsea fans are still waiting on the first new signing of the Frank Lampard era.

Excluding Mateo Kovacic, whose loan deal was made permanent, Lampard is yet to spend a penny since walking through the door in the summer.

The club are working hard in the background to secure their targets, however, whilst the transfer rumours mill is in full swing.

With a couple of potential incomings still touted this month, we round-up the day's latest Chelsea transfer rumours.

Chelsea 'in talks' over French wonderkid

Chelsea are trying to sign Paris-Saint Germain youngster Kays Ruiz-Atil.

According to  RMC Sport , Claude Makelele, who works as a youth coach and technical director at Stamford Bridge these days, is ‘very active’ in trying to bring the 17-year-old to the club.

Ruiz-Atil is said to be unsettled in France after struggling to make an impact following his move from Barcelona.

As a result, a move to England is possible this month and ‘alerted by the situation’, Chelsea have made their move via Makelele.

Jadon Sancho interest

Chelsea have reignited their interest in Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.

A deal is more likely to happen in the summer, however, with the Blues highlighting Sancho as a 'marquee signing' if Willian leaves on the expiration of his current deal.

Chelsea insist they have offered him a new deal but Willian is holding out for a two-year extension or could walk away for free.

As a result, transfer expert Duncan Castles, believes the likes of owner Abramovich and director Marina Granovskaia have Sancho in their sights.

“Their priority is on the wing, where they envisage losing Willian at the latest in the summer because they have offered Willian a new contract but only a one-year contract because of his age,” Castles said on Reach PLC’s  Transfer Window Podcast .

“My understanding is the club, i.e. Roman Abramovich and Marina Granovskaia, are very keen on taking Sancho.

“They’re keen on making a statement signing now that they are able to work in the transfer market again and have a lot of resource to spend in this window."

Competition for Soumare deal

Chelsea will face competition from Manchester United if they want to sign Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare.

The Blues have been heavily linked with the 20-year-old anchor, who would cost in the region of £34.5million.

However, according to  Sky Sports , Manchester United have also identified him as a target after injuries to Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay.

No decision over Soumare's future is expected to be made before Lille play Paris-Saint-Germain on January 26.
