Latest Chelsea transfer news: Inter Milan striker targeted, Olivier Giroud future update

Chelsea supporters can turn their attention to the January transfer window after watching their side cruise past Nottingham Forest and into the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Goals from Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ross Barkley ensured a safe passage into Monday night's draw for the next round of the cup.

Off the field, speculation continues to build surrounding the future of Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi as Chelsea look to bolster their striking options.

Chelsea identify striker addition

Frank Lampard wants to make Inter Milan striker Gabriel Barbosa his first signing as Chelsea manager.

The Inter Milan striker, who has just finished a spell on loan at Flamengo in Brazil, and has caught the eye of Lampard.

According to Express Sport, the Brazilian striker is now Chelsea's top transfer target.

Barbosa has a fine goal-scoring record in Brazil's Serie A, with 70 strikes in 112 appearances for Flamengo and former club Santos before that.

Giroud future latest

Chelsea striker Giroud has been linked with a move to Aston Villa and Newcastle United on loan.

According to The Telegraph , Newcastle made contact with Chelsea last week to discuss a loan move for the experienced striker, who will see his contract at Stamford Bridge expire this summer.

Meanwhile, according to  The Athletic , Smith is keen to make a move for Giroud, who is seen as their first-choice target after an injury to Wesley.

Chelsea are unlikely to sanction a move for Giroud, either on loan or permanently until a replacement is sourced.

Aston Villa given Drinkwater ultimatum

Aston Villa have been told they will have to pay all of Danny Drinkwater's 110k-a-week wages if they want to sign the Chelsea outcast on loan.

The former Leicester City midfielder saw his season-long loan deal at Burnley cut short after making only one Premier League appearance for the club.

However, with John McGinn ruled out for three months with an ankle injury, Aston Villa are in the market for another central midfielder in January.

However, it's unclear if they will be willing to shell out for all of Drinkwater's wages, as reported by The  Sun
