Latest Chelsea transfer news: Blues register Lionel Messi interest, Thiago Silva deal close

Chelsea’s ambition in this summer’s transfer market are very clear, as they bid to close the gap to Liverpool and Manchester City with key additions.

The Blues appear to be on the brink of signing one or two more players, as well as Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, who have already signed.

Frank Lampard will be determined to build on an impressive start to life as Chelsea boss, finishing in the top-four despite not being able to sign players last summer.

However, with the cheque book open, here are the latest Chelsea transfer stories emerging.

Chelsea Premier League fixtures

Messi interest

Chelsea are reportedly weighing up a potential move for Barcelona attacker Lionel Messi.

Manchester City and Inter Milan have both been strongly linked with the 33-year-old, who is said to have already informed new Barca boss Ronald Koeman that he could be on the move.

However, according to Sport, Chelsea are also exploring the possibility of signing the South American.

Barca are said to be unprepared to sell their star player this summer for less than his £631million release clause.

Chilwell injury concern

Ben Chilwell's move to Chelsea is on hold after the defender visited a specialist over a problematic heel injury.

The Leicester City left-back could miss the start of the season or worse, scuppering his £50million move to Chelsea, report The Sun.

Chilwell sat out the last five games of Leicester’s season while his team missed out on Champions League qualification by finishing fifth.

His move to Stamford Bridge is almost complete but a deal could be impacted depending on the specialist's diagnosis.

Silva deal done

Chelsea are putting the final touches together on a deal to sign Thiago Silva.

The 35-year-old is a free agent after losing the Champions League final to Paris Saint-Germain.

Sky Sports report that Silva will pen a one-year deal at Stamford Bridge whilst others state it will be a two-year stay.

Silva won seven Ligue 1 titles during his time in the capital.
