Time is rapidly running out for Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard to secure his first signing as Blues boss, with the January transfer window poised to close for business at 11pm on Friday evening.
The Blues, who will return to Premier League action this weekend when they face Leicester City at the King Power Stadium, have been linked with a host of names throughout the month but still none are yet to arrive through the Stamford Bridge entrance.
But even though time is ticking, there is still time for something to happen, with deadline day renowned for throwing up some last minute surprises.
Here is the very latest Chelsea transfer news.
Giroud exit blocked
Chelsea have reportedly blocked a move for Olivier Giroud in January.
The striker is out of contract at the end of the season, and has been attempting to seal a move elsewhere this month, with Inter and Tottenham both reportedly interested in a move.
However, according to L’Equipe, Giroud will be staying at Stamford Bridge “unless there is a miracle” on Friday.
Chelsea have been unable to find a replacement for the striker with Tammy Abraham injured and Michy Batshuayi failing to convince.
Spurs and some unnamed French clubs are said to be monitoring the situation, but it looks like Giroud will be staying at Chelsea until the summer.
Blues eye Boga return
Chelsea are exploring the possibility of bringing striker Jeremie Boga back to Stamford Bridge following his form for Sassuolo.
Boga only joined the Italian side for £2m back in 2018 but has made impressive viewing.
Even though the Blues are monitoring the 23-year-old, it is reported by Foot Mercato per Sport Witness that Chelsea would not be making a move for him until the summer.
Ampadu set for new loan spell
Football Insider are reporting that Chelsea are considering the option of terminating centre-back Ethan Ampadu’s loan at RB Leipzig.
Should the Blues decide to do that, they will then loan him out to Championship side Bristol City.
It is thought that Chelsea’s reasoning for this decision would be because they believe that the Wales international would get more first-team opportunities with the Robins than over in Germany.
Barcelona to launch late shock bid
Barcelona are weighing up a last-minute offer for Brazilian winger Willian, claim Sky Sports.
Barcelona are desperate to add some fresh options to their attacking ranks after losing Luis Suarez to injury and they consider Willian as an ideal fit.
However, Chelsea will not be prepared to lose the former Shakhtar Donetsk man without a fight, with the winger having been a key part of Lampard’s tenure so far.
