Latest CBS mock has Seahawks selecting cornerback

The 2019 NFL Draft may still be a few months away, but it’s never too early for mock drafts as teams look forward to the coming season.

The Seattle Seahawks’ defense turned many eyes last season as they managed to weather the storm and play quality football despite losing Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, and Earl Thomas. While the young secondary played well above their expectations, it’s clear the new Legion of Boom still needs a little more depth.

Such a need is exactly why, in their latest mock draft, CBS has the Seahawks selecting cornerback Andraez “Greedy” Williams out of LSU with the No. 21 overall pick.

“Williams’ athleticism is out of this world and when he’s locked in there’s no cornerback with more God-given talent,” writes CBS analyst Ryan Wilson. “But Williams needs to play with more consistency and become a better tackler.”

Standing at 6-foot-3, Williams appears to have the size of a prototypical Seahawks cornerback. Along with eight interceptions in the last two years playing in the run-centered SEC, Williams is also clearly a ball-hawk. However, the concern with Williams’ consistency as a tackler is a big one, especially when it comes to run-support. One of the hallmarks of a Pete Carroll-led defense is sound fundamentals, which of course includes tackling.

Should the Seahawks take Williams in the first round this year, he will certainly have to hone that area of his game to make an impact for Seattle.
