Latest Bristol coronavirus deaths and cases as hospital admissions fall

The number of coronavirus patients being care for in Bristol's hospitals has now fallen below 300.

The latest figures (February 10), show there are 282 people in our local hospitals who have tested positive for Covid-19, and 46 battling on ventilators.

This compares to 450 Covid inpatients being treated in Bristol hospitals during the peak of our last wave.

Today's (February 12) NHS figures also show that a further six deaths have been confirmed in Bristol and its neighbouring areas.

Three people died in Bath and North East Somerset after being diagnosed with the virus, and two in South Gloucestershire.

Bristol confirmed one further death and 103 new cases today. Our city's Covid rate per 100,000 people now stands at 181.9 - just below the national average of 188.3.

The breakdown of new cases

The daily rise in cases for each part of the region is recorded below, with the total figure during the pandemic in brackets:

  • Bath and North East Somerset: +27 (7,766)

R rate

The South West's coronavirus infections are shrinking by a possible five per cent a day, the latest Government figures show.

And the UK's Covid R rate has dropped to its lowest level since July.

Scientists said the virus reproduction value - known as R - was estimated to be between 0.7 and 0.9 in our region, which is the same as England's R rate..

It means that on average every 10 people who have contracted the virus will only spread it to between seven to nine others.

Nowhere across England has R above one, but North East and Yorkshire had the highest number of 0.8 to 0.9.=
