Latest Bristol coronavirus cases rise as hospitals record no new deaths

No new coronavirus-related deaths or cases have been recorded in Bristol today (July 7).

According to Public Health England's latest data, our city's total number of positive lab test stands at 1,281.

And it's been two weeks since a patient died at either Bristol's hospital trusts after contracting Covid-19. The last death was on June 26 at University Hospitals Bristol & Weston NHS Trust.

Cases of the deadly virus shot up last week, when the figures were updated to include tests carried out in the community as well as the tests carried out in NHS and Public Health England facilities.

That resulted in Bristol's total almost doubling from 729 to 1,276.

And none of our city's neighbouring districts recorded any new cases either today.

South Gloucestershire's total remains at 741, while North Somerset still has 907 and Bath and North East Somerset is constant at 336.

Coronavirus deaths

North Bristol Trust, which runs Southmead Hospital, has recorded 119 patient deaths since the start of the pandemic - the most recent of which was more than two weeks ago on June 22.

University Hospitals Bristol & Weston NHS Trust, which runs Bristol Royal Infirmary and Weston General, has reported 151.

Nationally, 155 further patients have died after contracting the virus, meaning 44,391 people have now died from Covid-19 in the UK.

Meanwhile, several pubs in England have had to close after customers tested positive for coronavirus just days after lockdown measures were eased.

This includes the Lighthouse Kitchen and Carvery in Burnham-on-Sea that has closed just 24 hours after reopening following one of its customers testing positive for coronavirus.

All of the pub's staff have now been tested for the virus and a deep-clean has been conducted.
