Latest breakdown of Covid infections across Bristol region

Nearly 1,500 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in the Bristol region over the last 24 hours, but all areas have seen a drop except for just one.

A total of 1,425 new cases were confirmed in our region in the last 24 hours, which brings the total since the start of the pandemic to 311,104 cases.

Fortunately, no further deaths within 24 hours of a positive test were recorded in the region today, leaving the area's total number of lives lost since the pandemic began standing at 1,793

Every Bristol region recorded a sizeable drop in new cases today, except for Bath and North East Somerset which saw a very slight rise compared to yesterday.

Meanwhile, earlier today, Bristol Mayor Marvin Rees who said that living with Covid-19 is now the new “norm” for Bristolians. Mr Rees told a council meeting that while more mutations and “flare-ups” were expected, vaccines were preventing the vast majority of people from dying from coronavirus.

He told a Cabinet Meeting earlier today that he does anticipate "flare-ups" in the next year or two, adding: "we will see what they are at the time".

The number of positive test results in each area of the Bristol region since the pandemic began is recorded below, with new positive test results recorded today in brackets:

  • Bath and North East Somerset: 47,748 (+236)

  • Bristol: 135,508 (+610)

  • North Somerset: 51,547 (+248)
  • South Gloucestershire: 76,301 (+331)

The number of deaths recorded in each area of Bristol since the beginning of the pandemic is as follows, with new deaths within 28 days of a positive test in brackets:

  • Bath and North East Somerset: 289 (-)

  • Bristol: 659 (-)
  • North Somerset: 409 (-)
  • South Gloucestershire: 436 (-)
